The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has extended the contract of the Masam Landmine Clearance Project–Yemen for an additional year, with funding totalling US$52,531,168.65.

The project is implemented by Saudi professionals and international experts in cooperation with trained Yemeni demining teams. Its mission is to clear Yemeni territory of all types of landmines and explosive devices planted indiscriminately, thereby reducing the direct threat they pose to innocent civilians and improving safety in affected communities.

In addition to its field operations, the project places significant emphasis on training and capacity-building initiatives, equipping Yemeni personnel with the skills and expertise required for mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal.

His Excellency Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), affirmed that the renewal of the contract with the implementing partner reflects the Centre’s humanitarian commitment to the people of Yemen. He emphasised the importance of the project in continuing efforts to clear Yemeni land of mines that have been planted indiscriminately and concealed in various forms and locations, posing a grave threat to civilians.

Dr Al Rabeeah noted that these mines have caused permanent injuries, chronic disabilities and significant loss of life, while also instilling fear and insecurity among local communities. He stressed that children, women and the elderly have been among the most vulnerable victims of these explosive threats.

He further explained that, to date, the project has successfully cleared and destroyed 567,182 landmines, including anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, as well as unexploded ordnance and other explosive remnants of war.

His Excellency expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister—may God preserve them—for their continued humanitarian and relief efforts. He noted that their support has played a vital role in alleviating the suffering of vulnerable and affected populations around the world, particularly the brotherly people of Yemen.
