Brig. Gen. Qaid Haitham Halboub, Director of the Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC) in Aden Governorate, praised the decision to extend the operations of Project Masam for a ninth consecutive year, commending the significant humanitarian role the project plays in protecting civilians and reducing the threat posed by landmines and explosive remnants of war across Yemen.
In an exclusive statement to Project Masam’s Media Office, Brig. Gen. Halboub said the efforts and sacrifices made by the project to protect civilians from landmines planted by militias across Yemen would remain firmly etched in the memory of Yemenis because of their direct impact in saving lives and protecting local communities.
He added that the extension of the project’s operations for a ninth year reflects the scale of the successes and achievements it has delivered over recent years. He attributed the continuity of those successes to the project’s leadership, headed by Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi, whose commitment has ensured the provision of advanced mine detection and clearance equipment, alongside ongoing investment in training and qualifying demining teams and supporting their field operations.
Brig. Gen. Halboub noted that Project Masam has achieved exceptional results, helping to secure vast areas of Yemeni land, restore life to many affected communities, and reduce casualties caused by landmines and unexploded ordnance.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as to Project Masam’s management, experts and staff, in recognition of their continued efforts to protect Yemeni communities from the dangers of landmines and unexploded ordnance.
Brig. Gen. Halboub stressed that landmines have killed and injured thousands of civilians, most of them women and children. He said the efforts led by Project Masam represent a fundamental pillar in addressing this humanitarian tragedy and mitigating its impact, helping to create a safer and more stable environment for Yemen’s cities and villages.
