Project Masam demining teams have cleared 2,166 landmines and other explosive hazards across Yemen so far in September 2026, as humanitarian Mine Action operations continue across multiple governorates.
According to the latest operational figures, the items cleared during the first two reporting weeks of September included seven anti-personnel mines, 488 anti-tank mines, 1,660 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and 11 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Teams also cleared 443,939 square metres of land.
During the latest reporting week (5-11 September), Project Masam teams cleared 1,303 explosive hazards, comprising one anti-personnel mine, 18 anti-tank mines, 1,276 items of UXO and eight IEDs. Clearance operations during the same period covered 248,945 square metres of land.
Clearance operations during the week took place across Aden, Al Dhale, Al Hudaydah, Hadramawt, Hajjah, Lahj, Marib, Shabwah and Taiz, where explosive contamination continues to pose risks to communities, agricultural activity, civilian infrastructure and access routes.
One of the largest finds was recorded in Mukalla, Hadramawt, where Project Masam’s Survey Team 2 located 1,000 items of UXO during non-technical survey operations and carried out a demolition of explosive ordnance.
In Midi District, northern Hajjah Governorate, Project Masam teams continued clearance operations around water infrastructure and in suspected hazardous areas, while technical survey, non-technical survey and EORE activities also continued.
Across Project Masam’s areas of operation, 1,584 people received Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) during the latest reporting week, helping communities recognise the dangers posed by mines, UXO and other explosive ordnance in their surroundings.
Since operations began in mid-2018, Project Masam has cleared 590,491 explosive threats, including 7,682 anti-personnel mines, 152,964 anti-tank mines, 421,168 items of UXO and 8,677 IEDs. Teams have cleared 85,447,115 square metres of land.
Project Masam continues to carry out clearance activities in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), helping reduce the impact of landmines and explosive remnants of war on affected communities.
