{"id":22070,"date":"2025-06-26T19:08:22","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T19:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/?p=22070"},"modified":"2025-06-26T19:08:22","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T19:08:22","slug":"project-masam-demolishes-over-4600-landmines-and-unexploded-ordnance-in-yemens-abyan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/eng\/project-masam-demolishes-over-4600-landmines-and-unexploded-ordnance-in-yemens-abyan\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Masam demolishes over 4,600 landmines, and unexploded ordnance in Yemen\u2019s Abyan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Project Masam\u2019s deminers have destroyed 4,620 landmines, and unexploded ordnance in the Wadi Dufs area of Zinjibar in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/masam-destroys-and-detonates-1470-mines-and-uxos\/\">Abyan Governorate<\/a>, east of Aden, Yemen\u2019s de facto capital.<\/p>\n<p>In alignment with the global mine action sector, Project Masam\u2019s responsibilities include the clearance, removal or destruction of landmines stockpile and explosive remnants of war.<\/p>\n<p>By\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/safe-detonation-of-landmines-in-conversation-with-our-experts\/\">destroying the explosive items<\/a>, Project Masam ensures they can no longer function as designed \u2013 this effectively protects civilian populations and helps to eradicate these deadly weapons.<\/p>\n<p>On 26 June 2025, Project Masam\u2019s Special Task Team (STT) in the Aden sector confirmed that the operation involved the detonation and destruction of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>155 assorted shells<\/li>\n<li>235 miscellaneous fuses<\/li>\n<li>85\u00a0 armour Piercing Fin-Stabilised Discarding Sabots (APFSDSs)<\/li>\n<li>4,096 \u00a0miscellaneous rounds<\/li>\n<li>13 \u00a0anti-personnel mines<\/li>\n<li>Five anti-tank mines<\/li>\n<li>31 \u00a0hand grenades<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Engineer Munther Ahmed Qassem, leader of the STT, said: \u201cThe operation was conducted in a remote area, safely distanced from residential zones and farmland, in full accordance with international safety standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Special Task Teams operate year-round because of the critical importance of our mission to protect innocent lives,\u201d Qasim stated. He also highlighted the challenges faced by the teams, including extreme temperatures and the rugged, complex terrain in which they work.<\/p>\n<p>Project Masam continues its humanitarian efforts across multiple Yemeni governorates afflicted by the widespread presence of landmines and explosive remnants of war.
