Project Masam demining teams have cleared 3,124 landmines<\/a> and explosive remnants of war across Yemen so far in May 2026, continuing efforts to reduce explosive threats and protect civilians in contaminated areas.<\/p>\n

According to the latest operational figures, the items removed include 157 anti-personnel mines, 267 anti-tank mines, 2,685 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO), and 15 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). During the same period, Project Masam teams secured 845,671 square metres of land, making it safe for civilian use.<\/p>\n

Clearance operations took place across several governorates, including Aden, Al Hudaydah, Hadramout, Hajjah, Lahj, Marib, Shabwah, Taiz, and Al Dalaa, where contamination continues to pose risks to communities, agricultural activity, and access routes.<\/p>\n

During the latest reporting week (9 – 15 May 2026), teams cleared 2,285 explosive items, including 145 anti-personnel mines, 172 anti-tank mines, 1,964 UXO, and four IEDs. Clearance operations during this period covered 531,413 square metres of land.<\/p>\n

The majority of items cleared were UXO, highlighting the persistent threat from munitions left behind in former conflict areas, often concealed in farmland and residential zones.<\/p>\n

Since operations began in mid-2018, Project Masam has cleared 561,140 explosive threats and made more than 80.3 million square metres of land safe, supporting safer returns and access for civilians and humanitarian organisations.<\/p>\n
