Project Masam’s demining teams have cleared 135 anti-tank mines from an area north of Bani Fayd village in Midi District, Hajjah Governorate, eliminating a direct threat to civilians, farmland, and local access roads.<\/p>\n
Midi District remains one of the areas most heavily contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war due to extensive mine laying by the Houthi militia during years of conflict. The contamination has continued to affect civilian movement, agriculture, livestock herding, and daily life across local communities.<\/p>\n
Engineer Al-Baraa Al-Ruhani, leader of Masam Team 40, explained that the team received a report from Sheikh Hassan Musbah regarding the presence of anti-tank mines near residential and agricultural areas north of Bani Fayd village.<\/p>\n
According to Al-Ruhani, the team immediately deployed to the site and began survey and clearance operations in accordance with international mine clearance standards and established safety procedures.<\/p>\n
He stated that Masam Team 40 successfully dismantled and removed 135 anti-tank mines during the operation, while also clearing approximately 150,000 square metres of contaminated land in the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
Al-Ruhani noted that the region has witnessed dozens of landmine explosions in recent years, causing civilian casualties, including among women and children. He added that livestock losses and damage to agricultural equipment have also caused significant financial hardship for local farmers, many of whom rely on agriculture and grazing as their primary source of income.<\/p>\n
He affirmed that Masam teams continue carrying out field operations aimed at protecting civilians and enabling residents to safely resume their daily activities and livelihoods without fear of landmines and explosive remnants of war.<\/p>\n
