During the same period, Project Masam teams cleared 1,002,229 square metres of land, making it safe for civilian use.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4161\" data-end=\"4483\">During the third reporting week, from 15 to 21 August, Project Masam teams cleared 1,836 explosive items, comprising 13 anti-personnel mines, 25 anti-tank mines, 1,792 items of UXO and six IEDs. Clearance operations during the week covered 355,679 square metres.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4485\" data-end=\"4780\">Clearance operations during the latest reporting period took place across Aden, Al Dhale, Al Hudaydah, Hadramawt, Hajjah, Lahj, Marib, Shabwah and Taiz, where contamination continues to pose risks to communities, agricultural activity and access routes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4782\" data-end=\"5433\">The overwhelming majority of explosive hazards cleared so far in August were UXO, with 9,018 items accounting for more than 97% of the total. This highlights the persistent danger posed by munitions remaining in former conflict areas, including farmland, residential areas and routes used by civilians. By destroying recovered explosive items, Project Masam ensures they can <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/eng\/the-importance-of-clearing-unexploded-ordnance-to-prevent-repurposing-as-deadly-ieds\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"5161\" data-end=\"5326\">no longer function as designed or be repurposed<\/a>, helping protect civilian populations and remove potentially reusable explosive material from circulation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5740\" data-end=\"6045\">Project Masam has also continued clearance operations around key civilian infrastructure in Midi, Hajjah Governorate, including water pumping and well sites, alongside technical survey, non-technical survey and <a href=\"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/eng\/in-pictures-project-masam-intensifies-explosive-ordnance-risk-education-in-yemens-midi-region\/\">Explosive Ordnance Risk Education<\/a> (EORE) activities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6047\" data-end=\"6336\">Since operations began in mid-2018, Project Masam has cleared <a href=\"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/eng\/project-masam-clears-587506-landmines-and-explosive-threats-in-yemen\/\">587,506 explosive threats<\/a>, including 7,652 anti-personnel mines, 152,447 anti-tank mines, 418,744 items of UXO and 8,663 IEDs.
