Project Masam demining teams cleared 10,099 landmines<\/a> and other explosive hazards across Yemen between 1 and 28 August 2026, continuing efforts to reduce explosive threats and protect civilians in contaminated areas.<\/p>\n

According to the latest operational figures, the items removed during August include 71 anti-personnel mines, 191 anti-tank mines, 9,782 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO), and 55 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). During the same period, Project Masam teams cleared 1,271,345 square metres of land.<\/p>\n

During the fourth reporting week, from 22 to 28 August, Project Masam teams cleared 819 explosive items, comprising 23 anti-personnel mines, 29 anti-tank mines, 764 items of UXO and three IEDs. Clearance operations during the week covered 269,116 square metres.<\/p>\n

Clearance operations during the latest reporting period took place across Aden, Al Dhale, Al Hudaydah, Hadramawt, Hajjah, Lahj, Marib, Shabwah and Taiz, where contamination continues to pose risks to communities, agricultural activity and access routes.<\/p>\n

The overwhelming majority of explosive hazards cleared during August were UXO, with 9,782 items accounting for nearly 97% of the total. This highlights the persistent danger posed by munitions remaining in former conflict areas, including farmland, residential areas and routes used by civilians. By destroying recovered explosive items, Project Masam ensures they can no longer function as designed or be repurposed<\/a>, helping protect civilian populations and remove potentially reusable explosive material from circulation.<\/p>\n

Project Masam has also continued clearance operations around key civilian infrastructure in Midi, Hajjah Governorate, including water pumping and well sites, alongside technical survey, non-technical survey and Explosive Ordnance Risk Education<\/a> (EORE) activities. During the latest reporting period, teams were clearing around Water Pump Station 2 and Water Well 1, while non-technical survey and EORE continued in villages southeast of Midi.<\/p>\n

Since operations began in mid-2018, Project Masam has cleared 588,325 explosive threats, including 7,675 anti-personnel mines, 152,476 anti-tank mines, 419,508 items of UXO and 8,666 IEDs. Teams have cleared 85,003,176 square metres of land.<\/p>\n

Project Masam continues to carry out clearance activities in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), helping reduce the impact of landmines and explosive remnants of war on affected communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
