{"id":2809,"date":"2022-08-22T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/v2\/?p=2809"},"modified":"2022-08-22T09:30:00","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T09:30:00","slug":"masam-clears-354857-landmines-and-explosive-threats-in-yemen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/eng\/masam-clears-354857-landmines-and-explosive-threats-in-yemen\/","title":{"rendered":"Masam clears 354,857 landmines and explosive threats in Yemen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Project Masam has announced its has located and destroyed 354,857 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include 5,517 anti-personnel mines, 130,667 anti-tank mines, 7,451 improvised explosive devices and 211,222 unexploded ordnance neutralised over 37,488,147sqm of land since mid-2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the conflict between Yemen\u2019s pro-government forces and Houthi militias escalated in 2014, liberated&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/project-masam-secures-30-of-%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8bdhubab-directorate-in-taiz-governorate\/\">strategic areas<\/a>&nbsp;have been left littered with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/18298-2\/\">Houthi anti-personnel mines<\/a>&nbsp;and anti-tank mines, along with unexploded remnants of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week (13 August \u2013 19 August 2022) alone, Project Masam deminers removed 921 deadly items, including 51 anti-personnel mines, 276 anti-tank mines, 590 unexploded ordnance (UXO) and four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), effectively clearing 374,327sqm of land, which has now been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/returning-displaced-civilians-to-their-homes-in-mocha-taiz-governorate\/\">returned to civilians<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than five million people are estimated to have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen \u2013 many of them displaced by the presence of landmines on their land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/technical-expert-fayez-al-harbi-landmines-were-planted-in-school-healthcare-centre-and-water-tank\/\">villages, roads, schools<\/a>, etc\u2026 in order to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian goods and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For insights into our humanitarian mine clearance work, project updates and to hear from our demining experts, follows on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Masam_ENG\">Twitter<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/project-masam\">LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project Masam has announced its has located and destroyed 354,857 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.
