Project Masam’s demining teams have cleared a minefield located near residential areas in Midi district, in Yemen’s Hajjah Governorate, following a report from a local resident. The operation helped prevent a potential threat to civilians in the area.
Engineer Saif Al-Mashmari, leader of Project Masam’s demining Team 38, said the team received a report from Yahya Jaidi, who discovered anti-personnel and anti-tank landmines while herding livestock south of Al Ja’ada village.
Al-Mashmari explained that the team immediately deployed to the site and carried out an initial field assessment. During the operation, they safely dismantled and secured four anti-personnel mines and nine anti-tank mines in accordance with internationally recognised mine clearance procedures.
He added that the area remains high risk due to the widespread presence of landmines and urged residents to avoid entering or working in contaminated areas until clearance operations are fully completed.
The team leader also praised the cooperation of local residents and their role in reporting suspicious objects, noting that public reporting contributes significantly to reducing risks and improving community safety.
The operation forms part of Project Masam’s ongoing efforts to secure residential and agricultural areas from explosive remnants of war, amid the continuing threat posed by landmines to civilians across several regions of Yemen.
