Project Masam Team 26 has discovered an anti-vehicle minefield in the Dar Al-Shuja area of Mokha District, west of Taiz Governorate, Yemen, after a bulldozer struck a landmine while operating in the area.

According to Project Masam, the team deployed to the site following instructions from the project’s operations room after receiving a report that heavy equipment had hit an anti-tank mine. The team then began survey and clearance operations to assess the extent of contamination and secure the area.

Engineer Sami Heimad, leader of Project Masam Team 26, said the team formed part of the emergency response units assigned by Project Masam during the Eid al-Adha holiday to respond around the clock to reports from residents and local authorities.

Heimad explained that the field survey led to the discovery of an anti-vehicle minefield. He confirmed that the team had removed four anti-vehicle mines planted by the Houthi militia and would continue clearance operations until the area is fully secured.

Farmer Al-Husseini Ahmed Abdullah Shujaa said residents contacted Project Masam immediately after the explosion. He praised the team’s rapid response and arrival at the site, noting that the area has witnessed several landmine incidents in recent years, including explosions that killed six people and injured others.

Farmer Zakir Dabaa said landmines scattered across the village had caused casualties among farmers and herders, as well as damage to vehicles. He also praised Project Masam’s work to clear agricultural land and remove explosive hazards threatening local residents.

Dar Al-Shuja is one of the main agricultural areas in Mokha District, where many residents depend on farming and livestock herding as their primary sources of income. However, landmines and explosive remnants of war continue to threaten civilians and restrict the full use of agricultural land.

Project Masam continues to deploy emergency field teams during the Eid al-Adha holiday across liberated areas to respond rapidly to reports from residents and local authorities and protect civilians from landmines and unexploded ordnance.
