Project Masam demining teams cleared 1,256 landmines and other explosive hazards across Yemen during the first reporting week of October 2026, as humanitarian Mine Action operations continued across multiple governorates.
According to the latest operational figures, the items cleared between 26 September and 2 October included 14 anti-personnel mines, 41 anti-tank mines and 1,201 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO). Teams also cleared 157,127 square metres of land.
Clearance operations during the week were recorded across Aden, Al Dhale, Al Hudaydah, Hadramawt, Hajjah, Lahj, Marib, Shabwah and Taiz, where explosive contamination continues to threaten communities, agricultural activity, civilian infrastructure and access routes.
In Mukalla, Hadramawt, teams cleared 894 items of UXO and 14 anti-personnel mines. In Al Hudaydah, a further 110 items of UXO were cleared in Hays, while Special Tasks Teams recorded 185 UXO in Aden and 35 anti-tank mines in Marib.
Project Masam teams also continued responding to reports from local communities concerning mines and UXO. These reports were prioritised to address immediate explosive threats and help protect civilians living in affected areas.
In Midi District, northern Hajjah Governorate, Project Masam teams continued emergency response and clearance operations in areas affected by explosive contamination, including around water infrastructure and other suspected hazardous areas.
Since operations began in mid-2018, Project Masam has cleared 594,745 explosive threats, including 7,749 anti-personnel mines, 153,148 anti-tank mines, 425,161 items of UXO and 8,687 IEDs. Teams have cleared 85,969,389 square metres of land.
Project Masam continues to carry out clearance activities in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), helping reduce the impact of landmines and explosive remnants of war on affected communities.
