Project Masam’s Team 42 has cleared 30,000 square metres of civilian farmland north of Al-Makhazin village in Midi District, Hajjah Governorate, as part of ongoing efforts to remove landmines and other explosive hazards from agricultural areas.
Team Leader Engineer Abdulrahman Dhiyab said survey and clearance operations carried out during August and September resulted in the removal of 120 anti-tank mines, 13 anti-personnel mines, 130 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and 20 improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Dhiyab said the work is helping protect farmers and herders from explosive hazards that threaten their lives, property and livestock, while supporting safer access to agricultural and grazing land.
He added that Project Masam teams had identified dozens of minefields in the area through reconnaissance and survey operations. Teams mapped the locations of mines and other explosive hazards and submitted the information to Project Masam’s operations room in Midi to support subsequent clearance.
Dhiyab said field teams remain committed to clearing affected areas so that local communities can return to their land, restore livelihoods and resume daily activities more safely.
Alongside clearance operations, Team 42 also carried out awareness activities for farmers and herders north of Al-Makhazin, advising community members to avoid suspected hazardous areas until survey and clearance work is complete.
Local farmer Mohammed Ja’idi thanked Project Masam teams for clearing agricultural land, roads and grazing areas, as well as for raising awareness of the risks posed by landmines and other explosive hazards.
Ja’idi said the work is helping protect residents, improve living conditions and increase safety for thousands of civilians in the area.
