On Wednesday morning (30 September 2026), Project Masam has carried out a demolition operation in the Zukhar area of Al Dhale District, destroying 299 mines and other items of explosive ordnance collected from across Al Dhale Governorate.
The destroyed items included one heat-seeking missile, 10 anti-personnel mines, 13 assorted projectiles, nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 177 rounds of ammunition, 85 fuzes and four hand grenades.
Speaking to Project Masam’s media office, Engineer Adib Rajab, leader of Special Tasks Team 2, said the items had been collected over the past few months by Project Masam Team 18 from Qatabah, Shakhb, Al-Ribi and Al-Qaflah in Al Dhale Governorate.
Rajab said: “These explosive remnants of war posed a significant threat to civilian lives. Over the past few months, the governorate has witnessed a number of incidents involving explosive remnants of war, particularly affecting children, women and shepherds, resulting in deaths and injuries.”
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialist added that destroying the items helps reduce the risks posed to local communities and forms part of Project Masam’s wider efforts to protect civilians from landmines and other explosive hazards.
Rajab said Project Masam teams are continuing to conduct awareness activities on the dangers of landmines and explosive remnants of war across Al Dhale Governorate. These include activities led by female teams specifically aimed at reaching women and children.
He explained that these activities have helped increase public awareness and encouraged residents to report suspected explosive hazards, allowing specialised teams to respond and deal with them in accordance with approved standards and procedures.
The demolition operation forms part of Project Masam’s continuing efforts to clear landmines and other explosive hazards from affected areas, reducing the risks they pose to civilian lives, livelihoods and property.
